Laboratory of the Public Analyst of the City of Bristol and then was employed for eighteen months in a vinegar brewing factory. For the last two years has been in the Laboratory of the Public Analyst, Derby. He is a B.Sc. of the University of London and an Associate of the Institute of Chemistry. He has qualified in the Branch of Food,

His testimonials and reports Drugs and Water (Branch E)

are good. Personally he does not make so good an impres- sion as some of our candidates, but he is the best candi- date that I can put forward having the necessary qualifi- cations in Food and Drugs which the Governor states to be

a sine qua nun.

In the event of the 1st. Assistant Government

Analyst being required in future to spend his whole time on duties

connected with the Imports and Exports Office, as will be the case

if my recommendations in connection with the Opium Farm are approv-

-ed, it will be necessary to fill the vacancy in the Medical Depart-

-ment caused by his transfer, and I annex the usual paper of

particulare of the vacant office. The new officer should arrive in

Honkong on or about the ist. of next January.
